Play Name That Song Game
This is a fun game to play with kids who like music a lot. To play this game you need to put your radio on scan, when a new song begins playing, then start guessing. The person who guesses the singer correctly wins a point. The person who guesses the song wins a point as well. Keep the point so you can decide who the grand prize winner is when you get to where your going.
Animal Counting Game
When you go on long driving trips, you see countless farm animals....at least if you live in the United States. You can play this as a team game or as an individual game. If you play it as a team game, then one team gets the left side of the road, and the other naturally gets the right side. You need to keep count of how many farm animals you see ... such as a tally of how many cows, sheep, horses, pigs, chickens, and other farm animals as well. You might also want to keep a tally of other animals such as cats, dogs, bunny rabbits, etc. Whichever team has counted the most animals all together wins the game. Don't worry if you don't win the whole game, you can also win for category of animals...such as counting the most cows.
I'm Going on a Trip and I'm Bringing... Game
What did I bring on my trip? This is a lot of fun to play. The child needs to be old enough to know the order of the Alphabet to play this game right. Start out this game by saying “I’m going on a trip and I’m bringing…” The first player should name an item that starts with an “A”. The next player would say an item that starts with a “B”. The next player should say an item starting with a 'C' and so on until the end.
Create Your Own Collaborative Story
This is a great game to play with your family or friends when you are on a long trip, whether on the road in a car, bus, or train. This came can get extremely funny so be prepared to laugh and make sure that you just went to the bathroom...otherwise somebody might wet their pants. The first person starts the game by telling only the first line of a story. The next person does the next line, and you continue around until the story is finished. This allows the creative juices to start flowing, and it almost always turns out hilarious.
Funny Rhyming Poem Game
This game is just like the story game, but your creating a rhyming poem. Even if you don't like poetry, this game will create bursts of laughter and enjoyment. I think it’s one of the better games on the funny side.
Spelling Bee Contest
First you will need to have a dictionary or thesaurus along to play this game...or if you have an iphone, ipod, or other sort of device that can hold a dictionary, then bring it along. Pick a person who is the judge and gives out the spelling words. When a person messes up the word they are out of the game. Of course the last person left will be the winner. This is not only fun but educational.
Guess The Number Game
Have your child think of a number that is between 1 to 100. Try guessing the number. Ask such things as “Is the number odd?” or things like that. Since this is a numbers game, it helps your child develop an understanding of some mathematical concepts.
Alliteration Words Game
This game can be funny...it is called the Alliteration Game. Alliteration is when 2 or more words begin with the same letter or sound. It is sort of like rhyming, except it is the front of the words that have to match. The kids will need to find alliteration names for their names or others names. Make these names as funny as possible. You can even use names of animals, such as “leaping Larry Lizard” ... " Ellen Elephant Ears" ... "Running Rachel Rabbit" ... "Doubtful Daniel Dog" ... etc. Once your child gets the hang of the game they can take the game off to different levels.
Colors Matching Game
This is a fun game to play on a long trip....it is called the colors matching game. Choose a color and have kids watch out the window for the specific colors. Keep track of how many each child gets to see who wins. When they say it they should say “I see a green car (or whatever color the object is). Try to make it to ten or twenty objects before picking a new color. The child who finds the most objects in that color is the child who wins the color game. Pick another color to start all over again.
Color Matching Game - Variation for Cars and Vehicles
This is a variation of the color matching game. Choose a color...any color. Watch for that color on a car. Who ever spots a car of the right color should yell it out, and they get to choose the next color.
20 Questions
This is a well known game, but I thought that I would mention it since it is such a great time-passer. One person will think of a famous person, thing, or place. Each person asks a question and the player must answer it yes or no. After 20 Questions if no one has guessed what the thing is then the player wins. And the next person takes their turn.
Rock Paper Scissors
Rock, Paper, and Scissors is a perfect game for two people as, it will pass some time. We all know how to play it. Hit the closed fist in you hand three times saying rock, paper, scissors. On the third turn chose your object. Rock beats scissors, paper beats rock, and scissors beats paper.
