Here you will find several methods of string painting, so you can choose which works best for your class or for your own kids. Find out some string painting ideas below...
MATERIALS NEEDED:
1. Tempera paint, showcard paint, or poster paint
2. Paper
3. String
METHOD
1. Dip some string into a jar or dish of paint. (Several pieces of string and several colors of paint may be used.) Thin the paint if the string does not dip easily.
2. Arrange the wet string on a piece of paper so that the result pleases you.
3. While the string is still wet, fold and press the paper or press a second piece of paper against the surface so that the paint will be squeezed and blotted.
4. Remove the string to see the linear design which has resulted.
NOTE: String blottos may be combined with other mediums for unusual effects.
MATERIALS NEEDED
1. String
2. Finger paint or tempera, showcard or poster paint or inks
3. Paper
4. A heavy cardboard or thin board of wood, pressed-wood board, wall board, etc.
5. Sponge, brush or bit of cloth
METHOD
1. Place some paint on the sponge, brush, or bit of cloth and with this thoroughly coat the string with paint. The string may also be dipped into thin paints or inks.
2. Lay the string in any desired arrangement on the paper but allow an end of the string to trail off the paper.
3. Cover this with a second piece of paper.
4. Lay the board over this and press lightly; now grasp the loose end of the string which you have allowed to trail off the paper and pull the string out from between the board and the paper.
5. Now, if you like, repeat the process with the same or with a different color.
NOTE: The resulting design may suggest a picture than can be further worked on by drawing or painting on it.
MATERIALS
1. String
2. Finger paint, tempera, showcard or poster paint
3. Brush, rag or bit of sponge
4. Board to which one end of string can be fastened
5. Tacks, thumbtacks, or staple gun with which to fasten string to board
METHOD
1. Fasten one end of a piece of string securely to the edge of the board.
2. Place your paper on the board in such a position as to place it under the loose string
3. Place some liquid tempera paint on a brush, rag, or bit of sponge.
4. Lift the free end of the string and thoroughly coat it with paint.
5. Lower the string carefully so that it is pulled tightly across the paper.
6. Hold the string taut and with your free hand lift it at the center and let it "snap" against your paper. This will "paint" a strong, straight line or perhaps a "splashy" line on your paper.
7. Lift the string, change the position of the paper, and repeat the process.
Repeated Changing of the position of the paper will enable you to achieve an intricate design of interlocked and interwoven lines. Change the string and color as often as you wish.
