How to make a Monster Bookmark

Monsters can be scary, but some of them can be quite cute too.  There is nothing to be frightened of with the cute ones…. actually, they are very friendly.  In this post I will show you how to make a Monster Bookmark perfect for protecting over your spot when you are done reading.  And, this monster might look quite cute, but he is plenty tough to make sure your reading spot stays safe.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Laura from  Dacian Moon Handmade  will show you, step by step how to make it.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– colored cardboard
– white cardboard
– ruler
– paints
– scissors
– paintbrush
– pencil
– pen (optional)
– glue

Step 1

Take the colored cardboard. Measure 10 cm on one side of it…

… and 10 cm on the other (near the same corner)

Measure 5 cm on both sides too, than draw two rectangles like in the picture.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2

Unite two opposite corners on the exterior small rectangles…

… like this.

Later we will cut off the marked triangles.

Step 3

Cut out the drawing…

… and the two triangles.

Step 4

Using the paints and paintbrush decorate the central part.

I am making points with red paint…

Then, using a black pen I cover the space between the points…

… like that.

I want to create an illusion of scales, so I add some purple color.

Let it dry.

Step 5

Fold one triangle over the painted part…

… like this.

On the other triangle add a layer of glue…

… and bring it over the central part.

Step 6

Decorate this triangle too.

Step 7

Draw two circles on the white cardboard…

… cut them out…

… and glue them…

… on the new decorated triangle (after its dry, of course).

Step 8

Do the same with the colored cardboard (two circles a little smaller).

It will look like that.

Step 9

Now, we will make the monster teeth. You can measure with one colored triangle.

We must take care to have an extra place that will go inside. Apply a layer of glue on that extra place and fix it…

… like that.

Now you have a cute little monster who can’t wait to chew your book corners.

Isn’t that a terrific little bookmark?  You can count on the fact that no one will have the exact bookmark as you.  Stop turning down the corners of your books and instead make this Monster Bookmark.

How to make a Pumpkin Girl Decoration for Fall

The leaves are falling, the air has gotten brisk and Halloween is just around the corner.  What does that mean?  Yep, Fall is here and it is raring to go.  I love fall…. the kids are back in school and I could finally pull out all of my favorite sweaters.  What else does it mean?  It is time to decorate for the fall season.  Today I will show you how to make a Pumpkin Girl decoration for Fall.  Let’s get started.

Tutorial offered by Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade .

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– orange cloth
– green cloth / leather
– wooden ball (I haven’t one so I made a head in polymer clay)
– toothpick
– craft glue
– paint marker
– needle and thread
– wool / cotton – things to stuff (I used 4 cotton pads for that)
– 1 disc of cardboard
– green cord

Step 1 – The Pumpkin

Draw a circle on the orange cloth (actually I just rounded the corners).

Cut it out.

This is the orange circle.

Using the needle and thread, sew near the edges…

… like that.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2 – Stuff it!

Take the cardboard disc…

… and place it inside.

Prepare your stuffing material: I made little pieces of the cotton pads…

… and place it over the cardboard, inside the orange cloth

Pull the thread to close the pumpkin…

… like this.

Sew it shut.

Step 3 – Pumpkin Top

Cut a disc of green leather and place it on top of the pumpkin, to mask the stitch.

Sew it there.

Step 4 – The Head

Take the wooden ball and put it on the toothpick (you can add a little glue on the toothpick for safety)…

… then put it on top of the green leather, forcing it through.

Now, our pumpkin girl has a head too.

Notice that the stitch on the green leather is visible and doesn’t look good. I’ll fix that by adding a new disc of green leather just under the head.

Step 5 – The Hair

Make some pieces from the green cord – about 15 cm length.

Apply a generous layer of glue on the head, where the hair will be.

Like this.

Take one piece of cord and place it on the head, taking care to have the longer part on the back, like this.

Continue to add cord pieces until the head is fully covered. Let it dry well.

Now you can arrange her hair as you want it. I split the front part of the cords in three…

… I made three braids – two on the sides and one on the back – and tied them together.  I then cut the front center part to make a fringe.

Now you must make her eyes and mouth… use the paint marker and she is ready to go.

Now you have a cute pumpkin girl to decorate your house with this Fall.  Add it to your other fall decorations to fill your house with tons of fall foliage fun.

How to make a Ghost Phone Pouch

Halloween is right around the corner and I bet you have your house decorated, costumes picked out and you have been wearing your Halloween jewelry for weeks… but what about your phone?  Yes, I said your phone.  Is it decorated for Halloween?  How about carrying your phone in a Halloween decorated phone pouch.  Today I will show you how to make an easy and wonderfully cute night glow ghost pouch for your phone.  How cool is that?!

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade will show you how to make it, step by step.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– a piece of black leather (about 22 cm x 5 cm)
– needle and black thread
– scissors
– paints (matte white and night glow)
– black marker
– phone

Step 1

Take the black leather and round its corners using the scissors…

… like this.

Place the phone inside it, the way you want your pouch to be.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2

Take out the phone and keeping the leather folded, start sewing.

You should sew around the edge for 3-4 times (do not shrink the leather)…

… then go with the needle under the stitch…

… making a knot, like this.

Space 1 cm then sew again, the same way…

… until you finish the whole side. It should look like this.

Repeat on the other side.

Step 3

Using a pen draw the ghost on the front of the pouch.

Like this.

Then, using the white paint, draw the contour of the ghost. (Actually, you can paint all the ghost with white. It will look more uniform)

This is the contour 🙂

Step 4

Take the night glow paint and apply a generous layer inside the contour.

Like this.

Let it dry.

Step 5

When is completely dry, make the eyes with the black marker. (you can sketch them first with a pencil)

Add the mouth and that’s all! You have a funny phone pouch!

I told you it was easy.  In no time at all you can be carrying around a festive Halloween ghost phone pouch too.  Nothing like having a ghost to protect your phone… so fun.

How to make Ghost Earrings

Do you love Halloween like I do?  Do you love the dressing up and the scary Halloween characters?  Well good, today I have the craft for you.  Today I will show you how to make Ghost Earrings that you will surely enjoy wearing this Halloween….. and the future ones too.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Tutorial offered by Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade . You will need help from an adult for this tutorial.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– night glow polymer clay
– eyes
– cutter
– toothpick
– jump-rings
– 2 earring hooks
– baking tray
– baking paper

Step 1

Take a piece of night glow polymer clay.

Cut it in half.

Condition it .

(Condition polymer clay by hand… simply mix it and squish it with your fingers. You may want to roll it into a log between your palms, fold it in half, and then roll again.)

Take the night glow polymer clay and make a ball of it and flatten it.

Squish an end between two fingers, like that.

Do the same with the other half.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2

Using the toothpick or your nails…. make each ghost a mouth.

Make a hole on top of both ghosts…

… like that.

Step 3

Place them on the baking tray, and bake them according to the instructions on the polymer clay package (they depend on the brand you use: fimo, cernit, sculpey…, but usually it is one half  hour at 230 F or 110 C) – *Must have adult supervision.*

Let them cool down.

Step 4

Take one eye, remove the paper from its back…

And place it on its place.

Do the same with the other eye.

Do the same with the other ghost. Aren’t they cute?!

Step 5

Open one jump ring …

… and place it through the hole.

With it, link the ghost of the earring hook.

Do the same for the other and you have a pair of earrings that will glow in the night.

And, there you have it.  Two adorable earrings that will be so fun to wear this Halloween.

How to make a Cat Mask out of leather

Are you planning on being a cat for Halloween?  Did you want something original that no other person will be wearing?  Why not make it yourself?  I have an awesome Cast Mask craft to show you that turns out outstanding.  In this post I will show you how to make a cat mask out of leather.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade will show you how to make a Cat Mask out of leather, step-by-step.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– lace
– pen
– leather (for the best results it must be vegetable tanned leather)
– ribbon
– card stock (or you can use a recycled paper folded in two, to be thicker)
– scissors
– silver paint for textiles
– glue for textiles
– double adhesive tape

Also, you will need a Leather Hole Punch – you can use a thick needle, though, but is easier with this tool.

Step 1 – The Template

Take the sheet of card stock (or, in my case the folded paper)…

And fold it in half.

Use a mirror and hold the folded card stock up to your face. Position the fold of the paper on the middle of the nose.

Using your pen… draw a scribble circle in the area of your eye. Also make a mark where the bottom of your nose is…

…like this.

Using the eye area and the nose mark as a guide, draw half of the mask. The eye is important… you must be sure it is big enough.

It’s time for the first check… Go back to the mirror and hold it up to your face again. Look at the eye hole vs. your real eye. The hole must be a bit bigger. Also, if you want to make some changes… now is time to do them.

Cut out the template.

To cut the eye, poke a hole and then use the scissors.

Unfold the template.

Now you must do the second check… If it doesn’t fit well, it’s time to start over. If you are satisfied… let’s make it permanent.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2 – Cutting the leather

Take your tape…

And put some small pieces on key spots on the back of the template, to prevent it from shifting around.

Find a good spot on the leather and lay out the template.

Using your pen, trace the contour of your template…

… like that.

Now, cut out the mask. The outside is easy enough to do with scissors alone.

It will look like that.

To cut the eye holes you will use the leather hole punch.

Make a hole on the edge of the eye mark…

… then continue with your scissors.

This is the mask.

Step 3 – Forming the mask

This step must be made without any interruption, because otherwise it will ruin your mask.

First, you must soak the mask through. You will see it changing its color a bit (on other colors it is more visible). Make sure you get the back wet as well. Once it is soaked… take it out of the water and pat it dry with a towel.

Put the leather to your face, pressing down on the sides of your nose and the sides of your face (the red marked spots on the image.)

That way the mask will take the form of your face.

Keep the mask like this until it is holding its shape.

It will take some time to do that.

When it is holding its shape you can start adding some personality to it.

Where the mask makes points… pinch into rounded tips.

Also, you can exaggerate the nose fold. This area tends to be the focus of the mask.

Keep placing it onto your face and pushing it into shape.

When you are finished… you can let it somewhere – keeping its form – to completely dry.

Step 4 – Decorating the mask

Since it is in the proper shape now, you can use the hole punch… punch a hole in a good spot for the ribbon to go.  To find out where the holes should be placed…  grab the edges of the mask in your hands and hold it up to your face. Ask yourself… where is the most weight being pulled? That is the place where you must make the holes.

Take the lace and observe it carefully. Are there any parts on it that will enhance the mask? I chose to use the spirals to decorate the eyes…

… so I cut out two.

Apply a layer of glue on one piece of lace…

… and place it on its place. Don’t mind the thick part, we will glue it later. Also, don’t mind the glue – it will be transparent when its dry.

Do the same for the other eye.

Until the glue is dry… you can decorate with the paint.

I made some points on the brow.

Now that the glue is dry enough… apply a new layer on the upper edge of the eye and force the thinner part of lace there. If you hold it a little, it will stay.

Let’s apply a bit of glue on the lower edge of the eyes too.

We don’t put anything there, but when it is dry it will look wet.

Also, you can add some silver paint on the top of the nose and draw some whiskers.  And, you could also add a bit on the edges of the mask.

Step 5 – Finishing the mask

Take the ribbon and cut it in two.

Put one half through one of the holes made with the hole punch…

… and make a knot on it, so it does not slip away.

Do the same on the other side… the mask is ready to go.

Now, THAT is one Rock’n Cat Mask.  You can almost guarantee that your Cat Mask with be different than any other you are sure to see this Halloween.  And, be sure to wear it along with the Cat Ears craft we made earlier today.  Worn together….. you will be a HUGE hit this Halloween.

How to make Cat Ears out of lace

Kitty cats can be cute and cuddly….. but on Halloween they can also be pretty spooky.  Either way…. cute and cuddly or spooky…. I have a great costume for you.  Today I will be showing you how to make Cat ears out of lace perfect for Halloween…. or to play dress-up any time of year.  Keep an eye out… later today I will show you how to make a Cat mask to go with your ears.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade will show you how to make Cat Ears, step-by-step.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– lace
– pen
– riband
– wire (not too soft)
– needle and thread
– scissors
– round nose pliers (optional)

Step 1 – The Armature

Cut the wire in two.

Take one piece of wire and bend it in half. Take care that the two sides should be curved, not straight, to look like cat ears.

Make loops on both ends of the wire – that will help us to fix it on the riband.

Repeat to make the armature for the second ear.

They will stay on the riband like this. Now, is time to verify if the size is OK… and correct it if it is not.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2. – Lace the ears

Take the lace and look at it carefully. See how you can use it for best results. I chose to use the swirls to highlight the ears.

Draw the contour of the wire on the lace…

… and cut it out, like this.

You will need 2 lace pieces for every ear so 4 in total.

Step 3 – Completing the ears

Start sewing the margins of 2 lace pieces together…

… like this. The lower side will stay un-sewed.

Sew one side and half of the other…

…then put the wire inside. Like this.

Now, finish sewing the second side too.

Do the same for the other ear.

Step 4 – Link the ears to the riband

Start to cover the riband with lace, by turning around it…

… like this.

Using the needle and thread… sew and wrap the lace over the riband.

When you arrive at the place where the ear should be, place it like this (with the two sides of the lace around the riband)…

…  and sew through it. Take care at the edges of the ears to sew through the wire loops, for stability.

Do the same with the other ear… that’s  all.

Now, you have funky and awesome lace cat ears.  Any child will look so cute dressed up as a cat with these ears.  Or, for that matter…. any adult.  No reason that an adult can’t dress-up too.  Go for it!!   It will be purrrr-fect.   🙂

Also, check out our Cat Mask craft which will go perfect with these Cat Ears.

How to make Halloween Glasses

I love making a big deal about Halloween…. dressing up in festive Halloween clothing and wearing funky Halloween jewelry.  But, have you ever thought of doing more?  Something that will undoubtedly get everyone’s attention?  How about wearing blinged out Halloween Glasses?  In this post I will show you how to transform everyday glasses into a fun pair of Halloween Glasses.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Tutorial (a long one but easy to do) offered by Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade . You will need help from an adult for this tutorial.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– night glow polymer clay
– black polymer clay
– cutter
– toothpick
– glasses (they must be made of glass because we will bake them)
– baking tray
– baking paper

Step 1 – The Ghosts

Take a piece of night glow polymer clay.

Condition it .

(Condition polymer clay by hand, simply mix it and squish it with your fingers. You may want to roll it into a log between your palms, fold it in half, and then roll again)

Take the night glow clay and make a ball of it and flatten it… then squish an end between two fingers to form a ghost, like that.

Place it on the glasses frame, as if it is staying on the edge. You can see that it is not very firm, so we better add its hands.

Add a small night glow piece on one side…

… and split it in two on the lower part… like in the picture. These are her fingers.

Do the same on the other part. Now, the ghost is firm on her position.

Repeat making another ghost…

… and place it on the other side of the frame…

… like this

Using the toothpick …

Make them some mouths.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2 – the Bats

Take the black polymer clay.

Split it in 3 parts. Two smaller and one bigger.

Take one smaller piece and condition it.

Lay a small piece aside… from the remainder make a ball.

Flatten it.

Using your nails mark the middle of it…

… then squish the new formed part like this…

… to form two corners.

Do the same on the lower part and on the side, until it looks like that.

Using your toothpick …

… define the center part.

This will be the body of the bat.

Use your nails to separate the body from the wings a little… in the lower part, like this.

Now, let’s make his wings. Press the toothpick on the sides to form the wing bones.

Like this.

Do the same on the other wing. Now it looks almost like a bat… he’s just missing his head.

Take the small part you left aside and make a little ball of it. Flatten it a little…

… and place it on the upper part.

Almost done. With two even smaller pieces of clay make its ears…

… and put them on their places.

You can make a mouth too.

Let’s put the bat on the frame corner, to mask it.

Repeat this step to make another bat for the other side.

Step 3 – The Cat

Take the bigger part of black polymer clay and condition it.

Make it in the form of a bread stick…

… then bend its ends.

Flatten it a little…

… and place it on the middle of the frame, between the ghosts.

Take a smaller part of black clay and make a ball with it.

Squish between two fingers to form a cat ear…

… then the other.

With your toothpick make her mouth and nose.

Make two small balls of white (or night glow) clay…

… to make her eyes.

And two even smaller black ones …

… to complete the eyes.

What do we still need? A tail!

So, let’s make another “bread stick” – a little thinner than the first one.

Curl it to look like a tail and put it on its place.

Then add the head… the black cat is ready.

Step 4 – the Baking

Place the glasses on the baking tray, and bake them according to the instructions on the polymer clay package (they depend on the brand you use: fimo, cernit, sculpey…, but usually it is one half hour at 230 F or 110 C).  *Must have adult supervision*

Let them cool down.

Now, the last thing is to make eyes for the ghosts, so use a paint marker to do that.

There you go…. you have finished your Halloween Glasses.

Now, those are some cool and unique Halloween Glasses.  You are going to look so festive this Halloween with your homemade Halloween Glasses.  Put them on and wear them proudly.

How to make a Cute Ghost Brooch

My daughter loves breaking out the Halloween jewelry as soon as October hits.  She will wear all of her Halloween jewelry at the same time… she just loves Halloween so much.  One thing she didn’t have…. until now…. is a cute Halloween brooch to wear on her Fall coat.  This cute ghost brooch is perfect and she loves wearing it proudly for all to see.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Tutorial offered by Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade.  You will need help from an adult for this tutorial.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– night glow polymer clay
– blue, red and pink polymer clay
– eyes
– cutter
– toothpick
– 1 brooch base
– baking tray
– baking paper

Step 1

Take a piece of night glow polymer clay.

Condition it .

(Condition polymer clay by hand… simply mix it and squish it with your fingers. You may want to roll it into a log between your palms, fold it in half, and then roll again).

Make a ball of it and flatten it, then squish an end between two fingers…

…like that.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2

Turn it on its back… on the middle of it place the brooch base.

Put a small amount of night glow polymer clay on it, like in the picture. It will hold it in its place.

Step 3

Using the toothpick or your nails, make the ghost mouth.

Step 4

Take a small piece of blue polymer clay…

… and make a “snake” of it, moving your fingers back and forth like that.

When is ready, bend it…

… to make a “b”…

… then place it on the ghost, like this.

Do the same with the red polymer clay…

… and make an “o”

Place it near the “b” on the ghost.

With the pink polymer clay…

… make another “o”…

… and place it near the red “o”.

Step 5

We’ll use night glow again to make her hands.

Take a small piece and make it like that.

Place it on one side as it holds the pink “o”

Make another hand …

… and make her hold the “b”.

Step 6

Place it on the baking tray, and bake it according to the instructions on the polymer clay package (they depend on the brand you use: fimo, cernit, sculpey…, but usually it is one half hour at 230 F or 110 C)  ***Have an Adult help for this Step.***

Let it cool down.

Step 7

Take an eye and remove the paper on its back.

Place it where the eye belongs and do the same with the second eye.

Isn’t the Ghost Brooch adorable?  It will be so much fun to wear it this Halloween season…. almost as fun as it was to make.  Almost!!

How to make Fairy Wings

Earlier today I showed you how to make a Fairy Crown.  Well, what fairy could be complete without fairy wings?  Now, I’m going to help your little fairy become a true fairy this Halloween with their very own Fairy Wings.  They will match the Fairy Crown brilliantly and your little girl will be thrilled with how wonderful they look.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade will show you how to make wings to complete your fairy costume for Halloween.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– organza
– 2 pieces of strong wire
– 1 piece of soft wire (about 15 cm)
– scissors
– needles and thread (I use white because my organza is light levander)
– assorted beads, crystals (or paints – the easier alternative)
– craft glue
– lace

Step 1

Take a piece of strong wire and bend it to form 2 sides of a wing, like this.

Make a loop on both ends of the wire.

Do the same with the other piece.

Using the soft wire affix the two wings together, like in the picture.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2

Cut the organza in half.

Place one under one wing…

… and draw its contour using a pen.

Complete the design.

Place the other half of organza on top of that and copy the drawing (organza is transparent)

Step 3

Take the craft glue (I use Tulip glue because is glue for textiles and you can wash the wings if they get dirty).

And place a generous layer on the wire (don’t worry, it is transparent when it is dry).

Press the wire on the organza, following the contour, to glue them together. Let it dry well (until you can’t see the glue anymore).

Cut out the extra organza along the wire.

Like this.

Then cut on the contour on the free side.

Now we have the wings 🙂

Step 4

To keep them in place, you must burn the edges. Use a match or a lighter and bring it close to the organza. Don’t keep it long. Just go around it.

***This is a step for an ADULT only***

It will look like that.

You can add some personality and texture by making some small burns from place to place on the wings. I like to use organza because it melts.

Step 5

Now let’s start decorating the wings.

The easiest way is to use paints to bring your idea to life.

I will walk the longer way 🙂

Because the organza is light lavender I choose pink and grey seed beads, dark grey tube beads, 3 pearls, transparent crystals and 6 tear crystals.

Start on one edge of the design.

Using a needle for beads (one very thin in order to go through the beads) place 3 seed beads on it then sew.

Repeat that operation following the design lines.

Like this. You will sew a small amount of beads at once (3 beads) because another way it will not look well, and it can break.

Use the other beads, crystals… to complete your design.

Step 6

Take the tear crystals…

And sew them on the three corners of every wing…

… to dangle.

Like that.

This is one wing finished.

Step 7

Cut 3 little squares (the big one with the side of 10 cm, the second 7 cm and the little one 5 cm)

Burn the edges.

Sew them together…

… and place them on the center, where the wings are linked.

If you want, you can add beads here too… to match the wings.

Also, you can cut the squares on any you want, but take care when you’ll  burn their edges after that.

Step 8

Turn the wings.

Cut two pieces of lace long enough to put the wings as a backpack.

Sew them on the back of the wings, letting the upper part longer…

… like this.

Now the wings are ready. You can close them on the front with safety pins, brooches or two buttons.

The finished Fairy Wings are beautiful and will look so adorable on any little fairy.  She will love wearing her fairy costume well after Halloween has finished…. it will be great for dress-up fun any day of the year.  Check out our Fairy Crown craft too.

How to make a Fairy Crown

When my daughter was little all she could talk about were fairies.  She was fascinated with them and loved to dress up and imitate them.  My daughter would have loved this craft had I known about it then.  Today I will show you how to make a Fairy Crown.  It would be perfect for Halloween or dress-up any other day of the year.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Tutorial offered by Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade . Children need help from an adult for this tutorial.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– black, green, red and white polymer clay (or any other color you want for the flowers)
– cutter
– toothpick
– soft wire
– baking tray
– baking paper

Step 1 – The Armature

Take the wire and measure how much you need for your crown (by putting it over your head). Cut the rest.

Make waves with the wire and make it circle.

On both ends make a small spiral – this will be the closing.

With the wire you cut before… make some new branches for the crown, like this.

Well, the armature is ready.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2 – The Branches

Take a piece of black polymer clay and condition it.

(Condition polymer clay by hand, simply mix it and squish it with your fingers. You may want to roll it into a log between your palms, fold it in half, and then roll again)

Flatten it.

Start covering the wire with it…

… by turning it around the wire.

This is the armature completely covered. We will let the ending spirals uncovered because when it is baked the polymer clay is hard and you can’t bend it to close the crown.

Step 3- The Leaves

Condition the green clay.

Take a small piece of it and flatten it.

Squish it gently between two fingers on one end…

… then on the other end.

Using the toothpick make a crease on the middle of the leaf.

With the toothpick or with your nails make small creases like in the picture.

You will notice that the leaf had flatten again so squish the endings again to improve its form…

… and place it on the branch.

Add as many leaves you want to make it look good.

Step 4 – The Flowers

Condition the red clay.

Take a small piece of it, make a ball and flatten it.

Make a sign with your nail on it …

… then squish it between two fingers around the sign to make a petal. Like this.

Place it on the branch.

Add four more petals and you have a flower 😀

Add as many red flowers as you want.

Then take the white clay …

… and add white flowers.

Step 5 – The Baking

When you are satisfied with your crown place it on the baking tray… bake it according to the instructions on the polymer clay package (they depend on the brand you use: fimo, cernit, sculpey…, but usually it is one half hour at 230 F or 110 C) – this is the part when you could use a little help.

Let it cool down and you have a beautiful fairy crown.

I love this fairy crown…. it turned out so beautiful.  Any girl would love to play dress-up and wear the fairy crown. It would top off any fairy costume perfectly.  Also check out How to Make Fairy Wings craft that would go beautifully with this Fairy Crown.

How to make a Spider Web Magnet

What item in your kitchen is seen most often by family members and company?  Your refrigerator, of course.  So, why not decorate your refrigerator too for Halloween.  Today I’m going to show you how to make a Spider Web magnet perfect for the Halloween season.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

Laura from Dacian Moon Handmade will show you how to make a funny Halloween magnet, step-by-step.

CRAFT MATERIALS NEEDED:

– cardboard
– pen
– magnet
– glass
– black soft wire (0.5 thickness)
– one red crystal and one black crystal (a little bigger)
– black thread
– craft glue
– round nose pliers

Step 1 – The Web

Place the magnet on the cardboard …

… and draw its contour.

Inside this contour start drawing the web. The drawing should be waterproof.

Fix a center of the web,…

… draw lines from it to the edge. The lines shouldn’t be perfect.

Then link the lines using horizontal ones. Like this.

Cut out the disc with the web.

Like this.

[ad#ahc]

Step 2. Assembling the magnet

Apply a generous layer of glue on one side of the magnet…

… like this.

Then place the web disc on it (with the drawing up)

Apply a layer of glue on the glass too…

… like this…

… and place it over the web.

Take a piece of thread and roll it around the magnet, just under the glass. Don’t pull hard. It just need to be on the glue.

Let it dry well.

Step 3. The Spider

Cut a piece of black wire – about 4 cm.

Make a loop on one end.

Add the crystals – first the red one…

…  then the black one.

Make a closed spiral at the other end, letting 0.5 cm of wire to the crystals.

Place the crystals at the ends of this wire. This is the spider body.

Now we’ll make the legs of the spider.

Cut three pieces of wire about 4 cm each.

Take one piece and start turning it around the spider body, between the crystals. Turn it around for 3-4 times.

Take care that the remaining wire is equal on both sides.

Add the second piece of wire the same way.

Then the third.

Is time to bend its legs. At about 0.5 cm of the body, bend the wire like in the picture.

Do the same for all the legs.

To prevent scratches, make a little loop on the end of every leg.

Step 4 – Adding the spider

Put the black thread through the loop near the red crystal…

… and make a knot. Like this.

Now the magnet is ready to decorate any metallic surface 😉

Isn’t this Spider Web magnet adorable?  I’m not sure a spider and its web is adorable, but if any should be…. this should be the one.  I love how the spider dangles from the web.  It’s perfect as a magnet this Halloween…. or anytime of the year.

How to Make Standing Witches for Halloween

Today we are going to be making Standing Witches for Halloween.  You can choose to either use the printable template and cardstock to make this item.  Or, if you want the craft to be a little more difficult you can use such items as yarn, sticks, construction paper and straw to make the Standing Witch from scratch.  The choice is your own.

Check out our other Halloween Crafts.

How to Make Standing Witches for Halloween

Materials Needed

Heavy Paper, Cardstock or Construction Paper

Yarn or Thread (optional)

Stick & Straw (optional)

Paste

Scissors

If you choose follow the printable template below to make the Standing Witch.

Printable template for standing witches

[ad#ahc]

Directions:

  1. In making this standing Halloween witch, the hat and coat must be drawn on rather heavy paper for it to stand well (with normal paper, if you walk past the witches, they might blow over from the slight breeze otherwise). So you can use normal paper if you want to, but I suggest tracing the patterns onto cardstock or construction paper.
  2. As for the hair, you can either use the template provided or use yarn or thread for the hair. It could even be straw pasted on the other side of the hat to hang down. The back of the witch is shown, so that no face will be needed to be drawn. This was intentional, as younger children might get frustrated with drawing a face. Plus, I think the silhouette of the witch is quite nice to look at. If the hair is made with thread, a vertical strip of paper will be needed to fasten the hat at a proper distance from the body, so it might just be easier to use the drawing of hair or paste the thread / yarn on to the cut-out-drawn hair provided. The lower part of the hair will then be pasted on to the coat.
  3. The broom may be made either of two ways. A stick may serve as the handle with a few real broom straws tied in a bunch at the end, or the broom may merely be cut from the paper template given like the rest of the witch. It is then pasted on the other side (front side, really) so that it would seem as if the witch was carrying it in her hand.

So, as you can see you can make this Standing Witch as easy or as complicated as you would like.  This is great for all different age groups.
