Doves are a type of pigeon that if white, is typically associated with love and peace. Doves also appear in Judaism, Christianity, and other religions as well. Doves and the olive branch often go hand in hand as a sign of peace and pacifism. They also are very loyal to eachother and even raise their young together. Because they nest near humans, and they eat seeds out of human hands, people have come to see them as a peaceful, loving bird. If you want to use a dove in your crafts project, then some of the ideas and activities listed below might be inspirational for you. Happy crafting!
To make this craft, you will need 1 large picture of a bird, paste, scissors, 1 piece of heavy paper or card stock the size of the bird, 1 piece of string 18" long, 1 spool, paper punch, and 2 gummed reinforcements (they type kids place on ripped loose leaf paper holes.) Now mount bird on heavy paper then cut it out. Tie one end of an 18" string to a spool and other end of string to a hole punched in bird picture. (Use a gummed reinforcement over hole to keep string from tearing paper.) You may "fly" the dove bird by holding on to spool and swinging
Slightly complex, due to the folds in the neck and tail, this smart little pigeon is a Japanese design. First of all print out the following paper pigeon template. Then fold along the line in the middle of the page. Then cut out the pigeon. You make color it with markers, colored pencils, or crayons, or you may leave the pigeon black and white. Then you need to fold on the dotted lines along the neck and tail. Folding the cut-outs in this way gives you the chance of getting away from the straight line of the backbone, and giving more character to your models. Such folds are much used by the Japanese experts. I hope your pigeon turns out great! Have fun!
