Veterans Day is a great day to craft with your kids or to have kids craft in preparation for. It is easy for children to think that the life they have is the way things have always been and will always be, because for them that is always the way it has been. Veterans Day crafts create a great teachable moment where you can explain the sacrifices that so many men and women of many generations made so you all can live free and happy lives. I'm sure your veteran loved ones would love to get some of these crafts from you as gifts.
This craft is a great way to show your support to soldiers and veterans. To make these dog tags, I suggest using a cereal box to make the sturdier. Print out either a black and white template or a color template. Then trace the template onto cereal box cardboard. Cut them out...and poke a hole in it as well. Then paste the template onto the cardboard OR you can use paint and design your own dog tags. You can use paint a few layers of Mod Podge over top the tags to make sure they will last in rain, but this is optional. Put cord, a necklace chain or string thru the hole in the dog tags and wear them around your neck to show support to our troops and veterans.
Perler Beads American Flag for Veteran's Day - Learn the pattern to make an American Flag with Perler Beads for Veterans Day.
Make an American Flag Keychain - This is a great patriotic craft that you can take along with you yearlong to show your patriotism.
5-Pointed
Star - Make a five-pointed star by folding a piece of construction paper a
few times and then making one cut. This type of 5-pointed star was
made by Betsy Ross (or more likely, Francis Hopkinson, a tailor and
signer of the Declaration of Independence), for the first flag of the
United States of America.
Bald
Eagle Paper Craft - This is a simple cut and paste paper craft good "just for fun"
or a bird theme made from a basic egg shape. You can turn
it into a handprint craft by replacing the wings with handprints
traced onto a piece of brown construction paper.
Bald
Eagle Wreath - This is a fun wreath to do by yourself or with a group.
Camouflage
"Friends" - For soldiers or for fashion, now you can dress your "Friends"
in camouflage clothes.
Canadians
Remember in November - Every November 11 (the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the
eleventh month) Canadians remember those who died during the First
and Second World Wars, in Korea and Afghanistan, and in numerous
peacekeeping operations. Find out what Canadians do on this special
patriotic day. If possible, talk with veterans. How do other
countries observe similar holidays, such as Veterans Day and Memorial
Day?
Cascade
of Stars - Make a cascading star mobile from paper stars, a drinking straw and
yarn. When you're finished, you can hang this cute decoration from
the ceiling.
Craft
Stick Flag Craft - This is a simple-to-make US flag made from craft sticks. Since this
tiny flag does not have the correct number of stars and stripes,
explain to the children that the real US flag has 13 red and white
stripes (that represent the original 13 colonies) and 50 stars (that
represent the 50 US states).
Fourth
of July Party Pot - This 4" terra cotta pot can be used to hold napkins and
utensils at a Fourth of July or Memorial Day barbeque. You can also
make smaller pots as name holders or fill with treats for guests to
take home. At the end of the day, you can continue enjoying this pot
by using it for a plant. The stars on the top edge are from the
printable template so you won't be forced to try to paint on perfect
star shapes!
Fridge
Hanging or Magnet - You can do two ways with this patriotic craft project: Hang it on a
wall or attach a magnet to it and stick it on your fridge. Either way
it would still look great!
Lincoln
Penny Pendant - Make a Lincoln Penny Pendant that you can wear to celebrate
President's Day, Veteran's Day, July 4th, or any patriotic US
holiday.
Paper
Bag Bald Eagle Craft - The bald eagle is a great craft to make for a forest or American
theme (it is the national bird of the USA).
Patriotic
Pebble Craft - You can paint a river rock to make a wonderful patriotic pebble.
They make great paperweights or decorations
Patriotic
Pinwheel - This is a simple-to-make pinwheel for older children.
Patriotic
US Plant Pot Craft - A simple-to-make patriotic plant pot.
Patriotic
Wind Sock Craft - You can make a patriotic wind sock from an oatmeal box,
construction paper, string, and crepe paper streamers.

Wreath - A simple cut and paste wreath craft to display at home, school,
church, etc.
Remember
Our Veterans - Investigate the roles brave men and women have played in your
nation's history as you learn about patriotic holidays.
Remembrance
Day Lacing Project - Lacing projects are a great craft for preschoolers and kindergarten
children to complete during any holiday. The lacing gives them
fine motor skill practice and practice tying knots and bows
(shoelaces!)
Stained
Glass Poppy Craft - Use this as a craft you can hang in your window or on the fridge.
We made ours a red and green poppy, but you could make white with a
black center or any other colors you like.
Stand-Alone
Star Craft - This 3-dimensional star decoration is made from 2 paper stars that
are interlaced. These stars stand by themselves on a table, and make
a great patriotic or Christmas decoration.
Star
Wreath - Make a patriotic star wreath decoration from paper stars and a
paper plate. If you're making this project with a group of children,
they can cut out the stars and write their names on them.
String
of Stars - Make a decorative string of stars to celebrate President's Day,
Veteran's Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, or any patriotic US holiday.
Make it as long as you want - you can decorate an entire room with
this patriotic (and simple) craft.
Stuffed
Poppy Finger paint Craft - Even the youngest crafters can make this project. It's great
for the children in the baby room or toddler room in a daycare to
make and hang from the ceiling. It's a simple, but cute craft to
display near Remembrance Day. Optional for churches, schools or other
groups: rather than hanging the poppies from the ceiling,
arrange the group's stuffed poppies in the shape of a wreath on the
bulletin board.
Tissue
Paper Flowers and Juice Jar Vase - I've given directions for making the flowers and for making the
vase. You don't have to do them both... you can make some
flowers and put them in a store bought vase or you can make the vase
and put in some silk flowers.
Uncle
Sam - This is a fun and easy color, cut and paste craft that uses a
toilet paper roll as a base to give the finished craft a three
dimensional effect.
Uncle
Sam Windsock Craft - This is a fun and easy paper craft that you can hang outside to
flutter in the wind on any patriotic occasion. You can
substitute fun foam pieces for the paper template pieces to create a
sturdier (longer lasting) version.
Veteran
(Soldier) Paper Craft - Paper crafts make terrific and simple projects decorations that
even toddlers can help put together. For beginner scissor
users, allow them to cut out the simple pieces like the body, legs
and feet while you cut out the more complicated pieces like the poppy
and medal.
Victorious
Veteran Pins - Award these colorful pins to the brave veterans at the Veterans Day
parade.
Wooden
Spoon Soldiers - This army of wooden-spoon soldiers will be sure to protect all the
ice cream at your Veterans Day party.
