I never really understood the whole connection between scarecrows and Halloween. When I think of scarecrows I see a friendly protector. Sure, they look like magical people out there in the fields but they are our guardians. They are there to protect our food from the evil crows that come hoping to starve us and raise havoc in our lives. Of course the Wizard of Oz only further reinforced my view. There he is getting lit on fire but he stands by Dorothy through thick and thin. So, I hope ifwhen you build some of these scarecrow crafts you can think of them as your guardians from the forces of evil and malevolence, here to protect you on Halloween or any other time of year. They may not be bright but Scarecrows are our friends.

How
to Make a Scarecrow - Scarecrows have
been around for centuries, ever since tribal farmers discovered that
a human look alike set in fields would frighten away birds and
protect the crop. But what is the difference between the scarecrow

for this scarecrow is made from tent frame poles, recycled from an

to Make a Shrinky Dink Scarecrow - When
teaching children - a lesson about the fall, you should always prepare a craft for them

can create their own scarecrow on a piece of Shrinky Dink paper. They
can then watch in amazement as their scarecrow shrinks to half its
original size.
