Pine cones are really neat to pick up and look at but did you know that they are the reproductive parts of a pine tree? And believe it or not, there are male and female pine cones. The female pine cones are soft at first but then turn harder to protect the seeds after they have been fertilized. The female pine cones grow for a few years while they are maturing and then fall to the ground when they have finished their reproductive process. Pine cones are really interesting to look at but they are also great for using in your craft projects. We have collected a few creative ideas that might help you out with this. Happy Crafting!
In the autumn you can find chestnuts, acorns and pine cones. Gather some and, with a small drill, make a hole in each one. Using a large mending needle, string them all together on a long piece of strong cord. Knot the ends of the cord together and the necklace can be slipped over your head.
You can use walnuts and pine cones to decorate your house at Christmas. Insert a short nail into the top of the nut or cone, doing it carefully so it doesn't split. Then fold aluminum foil around it and cut the bottom of the foil into strips. Press the rest of the foil tightly around the nut or cone and fasten a string to the nail head for hanging.
