Noodles are really yummy to eat, but they are also pretty useful when you are doing arts and crafts projects. The holes inside some pasta, especially macaroni noodles make them perfect for pushing thread or string thru. Also when they are shellacked they are great for making shapes and letters that won't break. You can make jewelry, barrettes, and many other items with macaroni noodles and other pasta.
For a simple necklace to go with sports wear or play clothes, dye a few pieces of macaroni or ziti noodles. To dye the noodles, all you have to do is to mix a few tablespoons of rubbing alcohol with different colored dyes. You then place dry noodles (uncooked) into a plastic bag. Tie the bag tightly and then shake until all the noodles are colored. Take the dyed noodles out and place them on a paper plate or paper towel to dry thoroughly. When all the noodles are dried, get cord or string and string the noodles, alternating colorful pieces. Tie the string closed to finish off the macaroni jewelry.
What?! Alphabet Noodles on your barrettes? Won't they decompose? No, these will last forever because you are going to varnish the noodles...so no worries. Firstly, paint the alphabet noodles in the colors that you want...make sure that they are completely covered with the paint. Let them dry completely. Now glue them on the the barrette. Make designs too with the letters. Such as making a flower with the letter 'U' for petals and the letter 'O' for the center. You can also use paper for the designs. Use your creativity. To varnish the barrette so it lasts forever, use clear nail polish. Brush it over the barette completely. Let dry. Reapply another coat...let dry. Do this one more time and then you are done.
You will need macaroni noodles, sticker paper reinforcements, string, Scotch tape, and scissors. Wrap one end of the string with tape and then string noodles and sticker reinforcements ...alternating them in a pattern that you lie. Tie ends of string in knot so that you can wear the necklace loosely.
