Making Glove Paper Wieghts for Your Memos
You'll get a "big hand" for your memos when you transform an old glove. Trace the glove on a piece of cardboard. Then Insert this cardboard, cut to fit, to hold the shape of the glove. Fill the thumb with something heavy, such as sand, pebbles, etc. Now sew some stitches across the base. This practical paperweight will keep mail and notes always under your thumb.
Making Cute Turtle Paper Weights
Start off by printing this turtle template. Use this turtle template to trace on to felt or card stock. Then cut out the turtle's body. Use Googly eyes, beads, sequins or paint for the turtle's eyes. Mix 1 tbs of water to every 3 tbs of plaster of Paris or Patching Plaster. Mix together until you feel a thick consistency. Now fill the sea shell or walnut shell with the plaster and put it in the hot sun until it is dry. Go on ahead and glue the turtle's shell to the body and let dry. These make great paper weights.
How to Make Photograph Picture Paperweights
To make this craft, you will need 1 clear glass caster cup (this is what they look like); any small colorful picture, or snapshot of yourself or a member of your family; scissors; pencil; piece of cardboard and piece of colored felt the diameter of caster cup; 3 tbs. patching plaster; clean can; tablespoon; butter knife; damp cloth; and glue. Cut the picture of yourself (or member of your family) in a circle to fit inside the caster cup. To do this, place smallest side of cup over picture and trace around it. Make a cardboard circle the same size as the picture. Place the picture face down inside the caster cup and press the cardboard circle over it (sketch a). Mix plaster with 1 tablespoon of water in a clean can. If plaster is too thick to pour, add 1/4 to 1/2 tablespoon of water. Pour plaster into caster cup (sketch b) and smooth off with a butter knife. Use a damp cloth to wipe off caster cup. When plaster is dry (this may be 1 to 4 hours), trace the smallest side of the caster cup on a piece of felt and cut out. Glue felt over plaster and turn picture side up (sketches c and d).
