A cool way of keeping a leaf record is to make stencils of them. These stencils can be used to decorate doll house wallpaper, book covers, and an unbleached muslin tablecloth. A stencil is a pattern which is cut in heavy paper or thin metal. This pattern-design is made with connected openings. To make it too, obtain a piece of cardboard. Place a leaf upon it. Draw around it. Then draw a second line close to the first one. Next cut out the outline space between the two lines leaving connecting parts. Place the stencil on a piece of paper or cloth. Use thumbtacks or pins to hold in place. Outline the openings. Remove the stencil. Fill in the shapes with crayons. When stenciling unbleached muslin, use a brush to apply paint to the surfaces seen through the openings in the stencil. Fix the color by laying a damp cloth over the stencil and pressing with a warm iron.
