The first basket making craft idea is a Clothespin Basket Project.
Firstly, obtain a piece of wire to form a circle that is large enough to hold 24 clothespins and to provide for an overlapping of the ends to close the circle. Wrap the wire circle with narrow strips of crepe paper until it is thick enough to fit snugly into the clothespins. Fig. I .
Slip the pins around the circle. Fig. 2. To hold them in place around the wire, weave strips of crepe paper, or ribbon in and out among the heads of the clothespins.
Fig. 3. Fasten securely. Then wrap a second piece of wire with crepe paper or ribbon until it is about the thickness of a lead pencil.
Bend the wound wire to form a handle for the basket. Fasten the handle securely to the lower ring of wire and to the heads of 2 clothespins. Fig. 4. Crepe-paper-wrapped-spool-wire makes a good handle fastener. Paint the basket white or brown or blue. Dry thoroughly. Place a glass or small flower pot inside the basket.
Line a lace doily in the manner shown in Fig. I .
Wrap a pipe cleaner with narrow ribbon. Roll .the doily upward and attach ribboned pipe cleaner to make the basket handle. Fig. 2.
Silver or colored foils, such as that used by florists to wrap flower pots, make excellent linings, especially if you wish to fill the basket with flowers, such as, violets or crocuses, which have had their stems wrapped in wads of moistened cotton to keep them from wilting. A nut cup makes an excellent foundation for a flower basket. Cut flower petals from crepe paper. Fig. 3.
Paste on the cup as shown in Fig. 4. Ruffle edges.
Attach a pipe cleaner handle. Fig. 5.
Line a plastic berry basket with a paper lace doily, foil, or Easter grass. Lace ribbon or crepe paper strips in and out of the holes. Fill the basket with candies, cookies, or gifts.
