If you have a baby sister or baby brother, then you most likely have an abundance of baby food jars around the house. Instead of tossing them in the garbage, or recycling them, how about upcycling those baby food jars. Upcycling means creating something new from items that you have no use for any more.
So what sort of things can I make with these baby jars? Well your imagination and creativity are the limit. I can give you some ideas, but you can push your imagination to the limit to come up with different or even better ideas.
One of the most often made projects to make with used baby food jars are homemade snow globes. All you have to do is clean out the jar. Dry the lid completely. Then glue a toy to the bottom of the inside of the lid....of course hot glue works the best, but if your parents aren't around, just use elmer's glue and wait for it to dry completely. In the mean time fill the jar with water and glitter. When you are done with this, and the glue has dried, close the lid tightly. Then seal around the lid with a hot glue gun (with help from your parents). You can then make the snow globe even better by painting some designs around the jar's edges.
How about a refridgerator calendar made from magnetic baby food jars. You need VERY strong magnets...the kind that you buy at the hardware store. Then glue that magnet to the bottom of each jar. On the caps, paint them all one color. Then paint numbers from 1 to 31on the lids. So you need at least 31 baby food jars. It looks very neat, sort of like an advent calender because you can place things within each jar. You can put lunch money in each jar...or a reward in each jar (for chores or if a somebody is quitting biting their nails or something) so that person gets a reward for each day they do something.
Another fun activity is to do sand art. You don't need all of those fancy plastic containers that they try to sell to you. You can just use a baby food jar and then paint and decorate the lid and the edges of the jar to match the color sand that you use. This is a great activity for kids of all ages, from preschoolers to teens.
There are so many other ideas for items that you can make with baby food jars...just use your imagination...and let us know about your ideas so that we can list them here.
If you have a a pencil sharpener, some strong glue, and a small jar, such as a baby food jar, then you will be able to do this craft. As your Mom or Dad to help you to punch a hole in the baby food jar's lid....large enough for a pencil to fit through. Then on the other side of the jar, use strong glue to stick the pencil sharpener onto the bottom side of the lid. Now after it dries, screw the lid back on. Now you should be able to sharpen your pencil through the lid and the shavings will all get caught in the har. When you are ready to empty the jar, just open the lid, and empty the shavings into the trash ... or use thim on the pencil shavings crafts page.
