A mosaic is a work of art that is created with bits and pieces of colorful tiles, pebbles, glass, or anything else that you can think of. The pieces that make up a mosaic are put together in a pattern in order to create a unified whole design - which may be a picture of something or it might just be a pattern or an absract design. Find out how to make mosaic art with the following tutorial.
1. Shallow cardboard box
2. Broken bits of colored tile or colored pebbles such as those sold for fish aquariums. (If pieces of tile are used it is necessary that children proceed with caution so that cut fingers do not result.)
3. Grout
4. Pan or bowl of water in which to mix the plaster or cement
1. Arrange a design of broken pieces of colored tile or colored pebbles in the bottom of the shallow box leaving spaces between the pieces. Make sure to place the colored side face up.
2. Mix the grout (unless you purchased pre-mixed grout)
3. Pour the grout over the bits of tile or pebbles to a depth of 3/4" or more. (Clean up all grout before it hardens in the container or the sink!)
4. This form may become a plaque, tile, or other decorative object.
5. When the grout is dry, tear away the cardboard box. If necessary, repair surface imperfections with grout.
