How about making a pirate mask with a simple brown paper bag that you get from the grocery store. You can add other items such as a bandana, eye patch, earring, and mustache. Use your creativity and make a great mask.
1. Brown paper bag which will fit over the head of the child.
2. Scissors
3. Rubber cement, paste, glue, or stapler
4. paint, markers, crayons, colored inks or watercolors
5. Materials such as bits of cloth, string, yarn, cotton, bottle caps, steel wool, etc. may be used for decorative purposes
1. The paper bag should be placed over the head so that the bottom of the bag rests on the top of the head. If a long bag is used sections may be cut out so that the mask fits comfortably. The front and back sections may be left full length.
2. Locate and cut openings for the eyes.
3. The mask may be decorated and features added with any of the mediums and materials listed above.
4. The nose can be made with a thin rectangle piece of paper folded in half. Cut the bottom of the rectangle like a letter V shape. Glue or tape it to the bag under the eyes.
5. Cut out a letter 'D' shaped patch out of a black piece of felt or construction paper. Glue it on top of one of the eyes. Glue a strap over the eyes as well (as in the picture) with a rectangle piece of black paper, elastic, string, or yarn.
6. For the mustache, you can use felt, yarn, or craft hair. Glue it under the nose.
7. Paste a bandana on top of the bag...if you don't have one then just use felt.
8. Cut out 'C' shaped ears and paste to the side of the bag. You can make an earring if you want...maybe out of a pipe cleaner. Put the earing thru one of the ears.
Be Creative and make a pirate mask that you can be proud of.
