This is suitable for a trunk key at camp, or a door key at home. A key tag is like a key chain, but for only one key at a time. It is a nice way to monogram a key to make it look nice and to show people who's key it is. It is a great gift for someone as well. Here is how to make a key tag.
cement
punch
scissors
glove leather
thin stiff leather
lacquer
The outside of the tag is made of glove leather, the end of which is wadded and poked through the hole in the key. Use a 3/4 -inch circle punch to stamp a circle out of thin stiff leather, to cement between the two ends of the tab. Ask an adult to assist you with trimming the edges even with a knife. Punch a small hole in the top if the key is to be hung up. Paint initials, key name, or number on the tab with lacquer. Though it doesn't seem so, the glove leather through the hole will last a long time and is surprisingly tough.
