Ants are pesky little bugs, aren't they? They always find a way to get into your house and even outside they are pests. If you eat a sandwich outside, drop a tiny itty bitty crrumb, an house later you will see a 100 ants surrounding your crumb. These ants will all work together to get that crumb back to their home.
Even though ants can be annoying, they are also amazing to watch. Since ants live in colonies, they are very social insects. Ants form colonies that sometimes consists of millions of ants. They all have specific jobs to do in their society. Some of them will be workers, others soldiers, and some will be drones or queens. But no matter what they are, they will all work collectively together for the better of their colony.
Cut a group of 3 egg cups out of an egg carton, as seen in illustration A above. Then either paint them black or use a marker to color them black (or you could use red). Glue googly eyes on the front of the ant body. Poke holes on the side of the ant and on the top of the ant's head. Then use pieces of pipe cleaners for legs...push them into the holes and anchor by bending the pipe cleaner on the inside. Optionally, an adult can hot glue the pipe cleaner on.
Get a piece of blue construction paper and use paste to outline and fill in the shape of an anthill, as seen in illustration A above. Then either use tan / gold glitter or sand to sprinkle over the paste. The cut small pieces of green pipe cleaners
and paste on as grass, as seen in illustration B. Then put black paint on one of your fingers and put your fingerprint in a few different places so it looks like ants crawling up an anthill. Use a marker to paint whimsical legs on the ants.
